The Read Live suite includes these programs to address your students' phonics and fluency needs:
- Read Naturally Live, which works on fluency and phonics and supports vocabulary and comprehension.
- Word Warm-ups Live, which teaches phonics, syllable, and affix patterns.
To decide which of these Read Live program(s) to assign, you need to determine the student's instructional needs via assessment and placement.
Assessing Phonics Needs and Determining a Phonics Intervention
If you have students with phonics needs, we recommend viewing this recorded webinar by our teacher trainer, Claire. This webinar explains how to use the Word Warm-ups Live phonics assessment to identify a student's earliest phonics need. Results of this assessment will help you determine whether Word Warm-ups Live or the Read Naturally Live Phonics series is best suited for a student, as well as where to place a student who needs help in decoding one-syllable, two-syllable, or multisyllabic words.
This webinar covers the following:
- How to assess a student’s phonics skills and needs.
- How to select the appropriate Word Warm-ups Live level and section for a student.
- How to determine whether a student should be placed in the Read Naturally Live Phonics Series or assigned to Word Warm-ups Live.
- When a student should be assigned to both Word Warm-ups Live and Read Naturally Live.
This webinar also links to free resources.
Placing Students in Read Naturally Live
Placement is the process of selecting reading material and setting an initial goal for a student who is about to begin using Read Naturally Live. Placing a student in Read Naturally Live involves determining the following:
- Level: Which level of material is most appropriate for this student?
- Series: Which series (Sequenced or Phonics) would most benefit this student?
- Goal: Which goal rate will challenge but not frustrate the student?
Before placing your students, we recommend watching this recorded webinar. In the webinar, our teacher trainer Claire covers the following:
- How to determine a Read Naturally Live level, select a series (Sequenced or Phonics), and set a goal for your students before they begin using the program.
- How to identify students’ earliest phonics needs.
- How to train students in using Student Independent Placement.
The webinar also includes a demonstration of the placement process in Read Naturally Live, as well as free resources that will help you implement your curriculum more effectively.
