Congrats to our June Star of the Month for the 2023-2024 school year, Jacob! Jacob is a second-grade student at Sulphur Elementary in Sulphur, OK, who has become an exceptionally enthusiastic and dedicated participant in the Read Live program, making remarkable progress and significantly improving his reading skills and confidence. Here is what Jacob's teacher, Ms. Cook, had to say about him:

Let me introduce you to the most enthusiastic Read Live participant I have ever encountered! At the beginning of 2nd grade, Jacob was struggling in all areas of reading and was very discouraged. He wanted to learn to read so desperately! Jacob is such a bright boy with an eagerness to learn. His classroom teacher says he always participates in classroom discussions and loves to answer questions.

Jacob began using Read Live in September with all of the 2nd graders in our building. He started on the 0.8 level. Even though it was very difficult for him he worked hard and never gave up. He is currently working on the 1.8 digraphs and is close to completing that level. In September when we gave the STAR Reading test he wasn't able to get a score. In October he took the STAR Reading test again and finally got a score. Since October his STAR Reading score has improved by 130 points!

One day during our Read Live session I told him that since his mom worked in our building he could do Read Live after school. His face lit up with a big smile and he said really!? Ever since then, he has been working so hard! There have been days when he has completed five or six stories! His reading has improved tremendously and his confidence has soared! In my 42 years of teaching and 12 years of using Read Live, I have never seen a student get so excited about learning to read! One day Jacob commented that he could do Read Live every day, even on vacation! That just melted my heart!

Jacob's mother plans on using Read Live all summer with him and his older brother who also struggles with reading. We are hoping for another success story!
