Addie M. is our May Star of the Month. She is a sixth-grade student at Stanley Middle School in Lafayette, CA. Addie didn't let the start of distance learning prevent her from improving her reading skills. To the contrary, Addie used the time to conquer her anxiety, and learned to use the new technology to work through stories with confidence. Addie's teacher, Ms. Baldwin, shared the following about Addie M.
Addie is a student with high anxiety and low confidence when it comes to reading. She fears reading aloud and the more nervous she gets, of course, the less fluently she reads aloud. During the weeks of distance learning, Addie made a choice to attack reading head-on. She's been following her teacher's recommendations for writing the predictions and retells, without tears, and best of all, she is mastering at least 2 stories per week. As soon as she scores 100% on her first trial with comprehension, she will advance to the next level. Addie is a remarkable student who has grown in many ways during the school year, but has risen to the occasion for distance learning. She has mastered new technology, learned to plan her time well, advocate for herself, communicate effectively with her teachers, and complete 100% of her assignments across all her classes. Addie deserves a medal of honor.
The Read Naturally Star Student of the Month program is designed to celebrate students who work hard to improve their reading skills using Read Naturally's intervention programs. Each month, we select one student to feature in our newsletter. The selected student wins a $50 Barnes & Noble gift card, and the school or teacher who nominated the student receives a $200 gift certificate for Read Naturally materials.
Great efforts Addie, you are such a hardworking child and motivational person for many other students.
