Whether you are starting Read Naturally Encore at the beginning of the school year or later in the year, the headings below reflect the sequence of phases you will move through as you implement the program with your students. Click on the links to access helpful resources for each phase of your Encore implementation.

Getting Started

Use results from a grade-level benchmark assessment to screen for students who need reading intervention. Use the Read Naturally Encore II Placement Packet to determine an appropriate level, series, and goal for each student. Prepare student materials.

Beginning Instruction

Use the Read Naturally Encore lesson plan to demonstrate and teach students how to work through the steps efficiently and independently. Check initial placement after three stories to determine if a student’s initial level and goal are appropriate or if you should adjust either the level or the goal.

Differentiating Instruction

Use Read Naturally Encore graphs to monitor student performance, and make appropriate adjustments to the level or goal to keep a student challenged. Adapt the program to differentiate instruction. Fine-tune your implementation using the fidelity checklists. Provide additional support for specific steps.

Keeping Students Challenged

Use a grade-level benchmark assessment to measure mid-year growth in overall reading achievement. Continue to use Read Naturally Encore graphs to monitor student performance, and make appropriate adaptations or adjustments in a student’s level or goal. Continue to fine-tune your implementation using the fidelity checklists. Continue to provide additional support for specific steps.

Evaluating and Exiting

Use a grade-level benchmark assessment to measure end-of-the-year growth in overall reading achievement. Determine whether a student meets criteria for exiting Read Naturally.
