One Minute Reader Live accelerates reading achievement by combining the research-proven components of the Read Naturally Strategy: teacher modeling, repeated reading, and progress monitoring. The student works at his or her own pace in an appropriate level of material as the motivating program guides the student through the steps. The student masters a story by reading along with audio and then practicing the story until he or she can read it fluently and with comprehension. The program automatically tracks the student's progress.
Research basis for the Read Naturally Strategy
Before beginning the steps of each story, the student selects the book and story he or she wants to read. Choosing the story deepens the student’s investment in the material.
One Minute Reader Live includes six levels: one for each reading level E through 5. Each level includes eight books with five nonfiction stories organized around a specific theme. The automated steps of the program are built around teacher modeling, repeated reading, and progress monitoring.
E | Early first-grade reading level. | Stories consist of a few short, simple sentences with several words repeated. |
1 | Middle first-grade reading level. | Stories consist of a few short, simple sentences with very few difficult words. |
2 | Middle second-grade reading level. | Stories consist of simple sentences with a few difficult words. |
3 | Middle third-grade reading level. | Stories consist of longer sentences with several difficult words. |
4 | Middle fourth-grade reading level. | Stories consist of some complex sentences with more difficult words. |
5 | Middle fifth-grade reading level. | Stories consist of complex text with more advanced concepts. |

It’s such a powerful program to build confidence and give kids the opportunity to feel the joy of independent reading!
Read Live has been an amazing tool for my 2nd grader. In the span of a month he increased his ORF from 80wpm to 155wpm while learning about many engaging topics. I just ordered gate plus as a tier 2 intervention and looking forward to using it with my first graders!
Such a fun and interactive program!
My students have enjoyed the Read Live program. They are engaged and making nice progress!
I have been using Read Live for over 10 years. I have used it for both elementary and middle school. The kids love it! It is great for fluency as well as comprehension. I see such growth. The articles are high-interest - the kids talk and compare what they have read. They love the student choice as well. The fact that it is leveled helps so much for the various strengths of our kids. We are getting more and more ELLs to our district, the new to English speakers love this as well! Thank you!
This is our first year using Read Live and it is amazing how much growth I have seen in all of my students. The program is very helpful for new readers and adds a challenge to students who are already reading fluently. It is very user friendly and student-centered! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Read Naturally Live is the best tool for struggling readers. The students find it very easy to navigate. The stories captivate their attention and help them, not only improve reading skills, but also learn in a fun way. I love how the program grows with them and challenges them along the way. I have witnessed countless students become better readers thanks to this amazing tool! I cannot recommend it enough!!!
Our district has been using Read Live for quite awhile. We first started with the paper copies and have been very please with the transition to the online version. I can confidently say that it is an outstanding tool for building reading fluency with students. The program is user friendly for both students and teachers. The students are able to work independently on enhancing their reading skills and then confirm their progress by directly working with their teacher. This aids in classroom management as well. The teacher can pull small groups while confidently knowing that their students on Read Live are actively engaged working on their IEP goals. The teacher can then switch which students are in their small group. Read Live makes data tracking easy for teachers. This data can be used to inform instruction and ensure that students are making progress. The reports have been a great tool to help students and teachers know how they are performing. Overall, we highly recommend Read Live!
My 2nd-5th grade Reading Intervention students love using Read Live. They look forward to reading the interesting non fiction stories every week. I have seen great fluency and comprehension progress.
Read Naturally is a great way to focus on building vocabulary, increasing fluency, and strengthening comprehension and writing skills.
I teach 7th and 8th grade students who are reluctant readers and have difficulty with grade-level materials. They are using ReadLive passages at their level as a supplement to a structured literacy program, and are making great progress. The stories are high interest non-fiction, so not only are they expanding their knowledge base and becoming smarter, but they are also enjoying themselves. Their fluency has improved so much with the focus on reading in phrases and repeated practice. I almost cried when one of the 'cool' kids told another student, "just do it, it works!" The visuaI graph for cold/hot reading scores gives them immediate feedback as well, always a plus and great to use for data collection to report to parents and teachers. I am so proud of my students and love the program!
I used to teach kindergarten and loved the informational passages for my early readers. Now in 3rd grade dual I have loved having access to passages in both languages I teach. This program helps my students stay engaged in reading while I work with small groups. There are so many great things I could say about this program.
Read Live is the program that allows me to continue to provide remedial reading services to a variety of students simultaneously. I am able to have a group of 8-10 students on level 0.8- 3.5 within the same timeframe. Since the blueprint for most stories & questions are similar, students are not embarrassed of their level. Students are thrilled when they complete a story and are able to choose another. The visual for CWPM is also exiting when students meet or exceed their goal. It is interesting to see students choose a story that is in line with core curriculum topics. The crossword puzzles also provide an additional level of vocabulary for students.
I am a special education teacher and I have used Read Live/Read Naturally for 15 years. It is a wonderful program. I have used it with middleschoolers and high schoolers. I currently teach 6-8. I love that I can circulate and work with 6 kids, on 6 different story topics and levels, on several different skills during the same time period. In my students with autism I've seen them developing the ability to infer from the surrounding passage. In my lowest level readers, I've seen fluency increase. All my students can create a five sentence paragraph story retell and I am seeing those writing skills carry over to their general education classes. In the past two years, we have gotten an influx 6th graders reading at the primer and 1st grade levels, and I would love to try Gate with these students.
Read live is easy to use and builds students reading fluency, comprehension, and writing skills. The lessons are interesting and keeps students engaged. The immediate feedback helps you progress monitor continually .
I have used many different reading programs over the years in teaching both general and special education. I find that Read Naturally Live online is amazing in both student engagement but also for great data records. The students like the interesting facts they learn about and it gives me the opportunity to increase rigor by requiring full sentence responses, complete paragraph summaries and high points vocabulary practice. Then there is the added bonus of a colorful visual progress set of data for the students to see and find motivation from. The questions are useful for identifying types of comprehension issues which I can use for informing IEP development.
